The subject of Fiorella Bulegato's book is certainly important if one considers the somewhat complicated relationships that have formed between museum institutions and the economic, cultural and physical changes taking place in the surrounding world. These relationships are reflected in the need for museums to redesign their communication with the public and constantly update their message. But they are also seen in the new roles being adopted by these "places of collective memory" in the face of an increasingly widespread sense of the loss of collective identity. In parallel, histories and things are falling victim to processes of obsolescence and dissipation that seriously endanger not only their physical substance but also the common awareness (memory) that they could have existed and had meaning in a certain era.
