Working on processes as a priority

Massimiliano Adami is undoubtedly attracted by plastics, though he doesn't admit it. And yet his debut as a designer was marked by plastic basins, bottles, toys and the skeletons of electrical appliances, which he immersed in a magma of coloured polyurethane to leave their shapes imprinted in the solidified material. That was in 1998, at an exhibition titled "The Phantom of Design", and it was a prequel to his successful Fossili Moderni ("Modern Fossils") project presented at Milan's Salone Satellite in 2005. These shelf units went into production for Meritalia the following year. As further proof of his plastic predilection, Adami recently presented Gommapiuma, a collection of chairs made of soft polyurethane and partly derived from the leftovers of industrially manufactured sofas and upholstery, mixed with "fresh" polyurethane. And at the Salone he will be showing an experimental project on polyethylene.
