MODULAR RETHINKING

For the Swiss firm USM, 2015 marks the 50th anniversary of its best-selling product, the USM Haller modular furniture. The celebration includes workshops with leading international design schools and a major event for the Milan Furniture Fair. Activities began in September 2014, when a group of students attended the "Rethink the Modular" workshop at the Domaine de Boisbuchet in southwestern France. Lecturers and students were asked to reinterpret the system, which is based on a chrome ball joint, chrome tubes and metal insert panels. The elements are custom-ordered, adjusting to the user in form, function and colour.
