Gerrit Rietveld Academie

The Gerrit Rietveld Academie is located in Amsterdam; the school, which offers only bachelor's studies, is affiliated with the master's-only Sandberg Instituut. The two schools are distinct, but they are located within close proximity and their facilities are open to students from either institution. Despite having only two majors, Rietveld is a relatively large arts and design school with many specialisations, stimulating cross-disciplinary collaborations. For both degree programmes, the first year is a general foundation year, and students choose their specialisation after this basic year. There are two prepatory courses for students who are not accepted directly into the programme, including the orientation year, a Saturday-only course lasting 25 weeks giving the chance to reapply, and the prepatory year, where students take 3.5 sessions each week for 25 weeks; if students pass, they are admitted automatically to the degree programme.
