Promoting Community Self-reliance in Europe

Between 1988 and 1992 the Interdisciplinary Research Project Local Economy based in the Technical University of Berlin began to examine local strategies of economic self-help, primarily in Western Europe, by means of empirical examination and comparative evaluation. The first conclusion we reached was that we are no longer dealing with isolated projects and marginal group activities, but rather with a growing international movement whose constituent members have emerged from completely dissimilar historical and cultural circumstances, and who are converging in their theoretical concepts and practical approaches.
