Children and the Future: worthy causes or worthy citizens?

If we want to discuss children and the future, we have to look at factors that influence our thinking about them and how we perceive important relationships between children and the future. During the last decade we can note an increasing recognition, both politically and in civic society, of children and their needs. In 1989 the nations of the world agreed to an international Convention on the Rights of the Child so far ratified by one hundred and eighty-five countries. The work to promote and protect these rights is beginning to receive more attention.
