Noninferior of desflurane to sevoflurane in the occurrence of adverse respiratory events during laryngeal mask airway anesthesia in pediatrics

We read with great interest a recent article in Minerva Anestesiologica “Desflurane is not inferior to sevoflurane in the occurrence of adverse respiratory events during laryngeal mask airway anesthesia: a noninferiority randomized double-blinded controlled study,” by Pin-On et al.1 Data from the randomized controlled trial (RCT) demonstrated that desflurane is noninferior to sevoflurane in the occurrence of perioperative adverse respiratory events (ARE) during laryngeal mask airway (LMA) anesthesia in adults.1 However, the question of whether desflurane is also noninferior to sevoflurane on the occurrence of ARE in pediatrics with LMA anesthesia remains unanswered. To elucidate further on this issue, we conducted this study.
