Tips for acquainting librarians to the law firm setting. Whether you're a recent library school graduate or an experienced librarian transitioning from an academic, corporate, or public library setting, the new law firm librarian can anticipate some surprises and new challenges. Law firm libraries blend characteristics of law school, corporate, and even public libraries, yet they operate from within the business of legal practice, which adds a set of dynamics all its own. Add in technological disruption and tightening budgets that almost all libraries are experiencing, and starting as a new firm librarian can be quite disorienting. As recent graduates, having completed our first year as firm research librarians, we share our challenges and experiences and offer suggestions to help set expectations and get new firm librarians up to speed.
