Teaching Literature and Science in Silicon Valley.

摘要

Literature and science teaching has the potential to address an urgent need forcollaboration across ever splintering and specializing literacies, and even a singleclassroom can act as a ground zero for large-scale cooperation between the humanitiesand the sciences. I begin the process of understanding what is at stake in literature andscience teaching by describing my own experiences at Stanford University in SiliconValley, California.1 The opportunities and challenges that interdisciplinary teaching faceshere, and the relationship that such teaching has to a surrounding corporate environmentheavily based in science and technology, can suggest ways forward for the civic potentialof literature and science more broadly.
