Correlations between Flare Parameters and Magnetic Parameters in Solar Flares

Weinvestigatedcorrelationsbetweenflareparametersandmagneticparametersbypickingupthelargestandsmallerflaresineachsampleregion.TheflareparametersthatweusedweretheX-raypeakflux,characteristicdurationtime,andX-rayenergy.ThesevalueswerederivedfromGeostationaryOperationalEnvironmentalSatellites(GOES)X-raylightcurves(1a€“8?…).Themagneticparametersusedweretheaveragedlongitudinalfieldstrength,averagedshearfieldstrength,andcharacteristiclengthofflareribbons.Thesemagneticparameterswerederivedfromflaringareas.WeusedvectormagnetogramsobtainedwiththeSolarFlareTelescope(NationalAstronomicalObservatoryofJapan)andSoHO/MDI(MichelsonDopplerImager)magnetograms.InthispapertheregionallylargestflareisdefinedastheflarewhoseX-raypeakfluxexceedsone-fifthoftheX-raypeakfluxofthemostintenseflareineachregion,andalltheotherflaresaredefinedassmallerflares.From1997to2003,weselected20flaresastheregionallylargestflaresand15flaresassmallerflares.WefoundthattheX-raypeakfluxoftheregionallylargestflareshasdefinitecorrelationswiththemagneticparameters,andthecharacteristicdurationtimehasadefinitecorrelationonlywiththecharacteristiclengthofflareribbons.Theregionallylargestflaresandsmallerflaresshowdifferentrelationsbetweentheflareparametersandthemagneticparameters.Theyshow,ontheotherhand,asinglerelationbetweentheX-rayenergyandthemagneticfreeenergyindexderivedfromthephotosphericmagneticparameters.
