Age-related EBV-associated B-cell lymphoproliferative disorders of the minor salivary gland: a case report

Highlights ? We described a case of age-related EBV-associated B-cell lymphoproliferative disorders (AEBVLPD) of the minor salivary gland. ? This disease has rarely been reported in the oral and maxillofacial regions. ? The patient also had a history of remitting seronegative symmetrical synovitis with pitting edema (RS3PE) syndrome. ? We discussed AEBVLPDs in relation with RS3PE syndrome. Abstract Age-related EBV-associated B-cell lymphoproliferative disorders (AEBVLPD) was incorporated into the 2008 World Health Organization classification of lymphomas as Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-positive diffuse large B-cell lymphoma of the elderly. This disease is defined as a histologically malignant polymorphic or monomorphic B-cell lymphoproliferation in patients more than 50 years of age without any known immunodeficiency or prior lymphoma. These patients have been reported to have a worse prognosis than those with EBV-negative diffuse large B-cell lymphoma or EBV-positive Hodgkin lymphoma. Here we describe a case of age-related EBV-associated B-cell lymphoproliferative disorder arising in the minor salivary gland, which is a disease that has rarely been reported in the oral and maxillofacial regions. This case report is on a patient who also had a history of remitting seronegative symmetrical synovitis with pitting edema syndrome and had been administrated low-dose prednisolone.
