Abstract:Objective To evaluate the foam dressing with modified crossshaped cutting method in patient undergoing tracheotomy. Methods A total of 92 patients undergoing tracheotomy were randomly divided into the control group and the observation group, with 46 cases in each group. The foam dressing with conventional circleshaped cutting method was used in the control group while the foam dressing with modified crossshaped cutting method was given to the observation group. The incidences of incisional wound infection and irritant dermatitis, nursing workload were compared 7 days after tracheotomy. Results The incidences of incisional wound infection and irritant dermatitis were lower in the observation group than those in the control group (P<0.05). The observation group had a less dressing changing times, overall changing time and less cost compared with the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion The foam dressing with modified crossshaped cutting method is effective to reduce the risk of tracheotomy related complications and to improve the nursing work efficiency.
