Abstract：Objective To investigate the effect of acupuncture at Tianshu(ST 25)with medium frequency electrotherapy in treatment of constipation in the elderly, and to summarize related nursing management. Methods 〓Totally 74 elderly patients with cardiovascular disease and constipation were assigned to the observation group and the control group, with 37 cases in each group. Both two groups received drug treatment and comprehensive nursing care, and the acupuncture at Tianshu(ST 25)with medium frequency electrotherapy was carried out in the observation group. The clinical efficacy of the intervention was evaluated by using constipation symptom scale. Results 〓The total score of constipation symptom scale was(4.78±1.25)in the observation group and was(6.20±1.75)in the control group, with a significant difference(P0.05). The overall effective rate was higher in the observation group than that of the control group(91.90% vs. 75.68%, P0.05). Conclusion 〓The acupuncture with medium frequency electrotherapy is effective and safe in treatment of constipation. It is also required to carry out comprehensive nursing interventions during treatment.
