摘要

Objectiv e: To evaluation of hepatoprotective efficacy of r hizomes Curcuma caesia in paracetamol induced hepat otoxicity in rats . Methods: Wistar rats were divided into fiv e groups (n=6). Ethanolic extract of Curcuma caesia rhizomes was prepared and evaluated for its hepatoprotective efficacy against paracetamol (PCM) (2g/kg B. wt.) induced hepatotoxicity in rats. Sily marin (100mg/kg b. wt., oral) was used as standar d. Or gan to body weight indices (OBWI), Levels of Serum glut amic pyruv ate tr ansaminase (SGPT ), Ser um glutamic oxaloacetic transaminas e (SGOT), Alkaline phosphatas e (ALP), bilirubin, total pr otein, Reduced and Oxidized glutathione in tissue and lipid peroxidat ion w as ev aluat ed along with histopathological invest igation in v arious experimental groups of rats . Results: Paracetamol has enhanced the OBWI, lev els of SGPT , SGOT, SALP, bilirubin, tiss ue and serum MDA and tis sue GSSG levels , whereas plasma pr otein, tissue GSH levels ar e decreased significantly (P<0.05) as compared to normal control. Pretreatment w ith et hanolic ext ract of Curcuma caesia (250mg/kg B. wt. and 500 mg/kg B. w t.) has br ought back the altered levels of biochemical markers to the near normal lev els. Conclus ion: Curcuma caesia extract (CCE) acts in the liver as a potent scav enger of fr ee radicals to pr event the t oxic effect s of Paracetamol both in the biochemical and his topat hological parameters
