COMPARISON OF THE TRANSMISSION DYNAMICS OF SIR AGE STRUCTURED MODEL IN MALARIA AND DENGUE

摘要

In this paper, we compare the transmission dynamics of malaria and dengue in an SIR age-structured population model which was already formulated and analysed by the author. The comparison is done by simulation using MATLAB. The numerical simulation shows that the system is stable when the reproduction number is greater than one. It is also observed that dengue becomes stable in a shorter time period compared to malaria. It is seen that irrespective of the age, the numbers of infectives are more in malaria than in dengue. Further, irrespective of the disease, the number of infectives are more in adults than in juveniles. The immigration rate plays an important role in the malaria infectives whereas it is insignificant in the dengue infectives. It is also seen that the recovered individuals are more in malaria compared to dengue.
