The “Y2K” decade is finally over. The planet remains intact; despite predictions of computer glitches that would grind ourdigital electronic society to a humbling halt. During the decade, human populations increased at unprecedented ratesand life expectancy at birth increased for most regions. Yet discontent lingers, the roots of which are not so deep. War,terrorism, conflict, excruciating poverty, devastating natural and environmental disasters, hunger, and epidemicsdominated the news throughout the past. We hope to leave most of that behind in 2011.
