First Thoughts on Implementing the Framework for Information Literacy

FollowingtheactionoftheACRLBoardinFebruary2015inacceptingtheFrameworkforInformationLiteracyforHigherEducationasoneofthe“constellationofdocuments”thatpromoteandguideinformationliteracyinstructionandprogramdevelopment,discussioninthelibrarycommunitycontinuesaboutstepsinimplementingtheFramework.ThespectrumofpossibilitiesforimplementingtheFrameworkencompassesbothcurricularandco-curricularsettingswithincollegesanduniversities.AtthisearlystageofimplementingtheFramework,wesuggestfivecurricularandinstructionalstructuresthatcanbethoughtofasacontinuumofdeepenedengagementwithitscoreideas.ThesecondhalfofthisarticlepresentstwoexamplesthatshowpossiblewaystoincorporateelementsoftheFramework:aredesignedsingleinstructionsessionandacoursethatillustratesahybridmodelblendingtheunit-basedassignmentswithacourseredesign.
