Webevaluationhasbeenastandardinformationliteracyofferingforyearsandhasalwaysbeenachallengingtopicforinstructionlibrarians.Overtime,theauthorshadtriedamyriadofstrategiestoteachfreshmenhowtoassessthecredibilityofWebsitesbutfelttheeffortswereinsufficient.Byfamiliarizingthemselveswiththecognitivedevelopmentresearch,theywereabletoeffectivelyrevampWebevaluationinstructiontoimprovestudentlearning.Thisarticlediscussestheproblemsoftraditionalmethods,suchaschecklists;summarizesthecognitivedevelopmentresearch,particularlyinregardstoitsrelationshiptotheACRLInformationLiteracyStandards;anddetailstheinstructionallessonplandevelopedbytheauthorsthatincorporatescognitivedevelopmenttheories.
