Our profession is going through one of the most exciting periods in Non-destructive Testing history, in conjunction with the Industry 4.0 revolution. The concept originated at the Hannover Industrial Fair in 2011, with the intention to raise the level of manufacturing through the application of new technologies such as the Internet of Things. Combining traditional non-destructive methods and the digital world, the main purpose of NDE / NDT 4.0 is to ensure safety of environment, people, assets, and infrastructure. One early example of NDT 4.0, that has already been adopted by some industries, is the digital twin modelling. This technology is used in aviation, the maritime industry and defense sector, which produce digital twin modelling of aircraft, ships, submarines and ports. Other industries, including refineries and processing facilities, have also embraced digital twin technology, along with many other examples that I have not listed here.
