According to IDC, the Internet of Things (IoT) could consist of 15 billion intelligent connected devices by 2015 ('Worldwide Intelligent Systems 2011-2015 Forecast: The Next Big Opportunity')- The machine-to-machine (M2M) connectivity of the IoT requires extensive communications and computing technology. 'This is the whole spectrum of devices, from microcontrollers and sensors all the way up to data center devices,' says Ryan Brown, marketing director, Intelligent Systems Group, Intel.
