Solar cell manufacture finds boost

A laser-based manufacturing process from Fraunhofer in Freiburg, Germany is shaking up the photovoltaics market. For the first time point-contacted solar cells can be manufactured in series. The total amount of electric energy from photovoltaic sources is more than 250 terawatt hours, approximately equivalent to the amount produced by 30 nuclear power plants, and this is set to rise.
