Mergers and acquisitions deal with the buying, selling, dividing, and combining of different companies and similar entities. The question of whether companies can benefit from merger activity is controversial in the existing literature. The mergers and acquisitions of serial-chain company operations have seldom been considered. This work takes a new perspective for mortgage banking operations to be viewed from a supply chain perspective, where the primary and secondary markets are upstream and downstream chain members, respectively. Mortgage banking operations are thus studied from the supply chain perspective. The authors describe serial-chain models to evaluate the potential merger efficiency of organizations and define merger efficiency concepts for both single units and multiple units with a serial-chain model.
