Not far from where the International Astronomonical Union (IAU) members were hotly debating whether Pluto was a planet or merely an oversized asteroid in Prague; Ajit Kembhavi and his collegues from the' Virtual Observatory (VO) initiative were working on the standards for digitizing and scanning the skies. It has been over five years since VO was launched, and going by the body of work, it has been an outstanding success. And India, more importantly, Indian IT, has played a significant role in getting VO off the ground and into the heavens. All credit is due to Kembhavi and his team at Inter-University Centre For Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA).
