Last year when TCS layed off some non-performers, close to 500, there was much brouhaha over it. Then the company had to let go a few more people who had fudged their resumes. But, TCS also had a lot to boast about. For instance, the company created history by becoming the largest private employer in India crossing the 100,000 employee mark. It is also the first Indian company to employ a 10,000 plus non-Indian workforce, close to 9.2% of the total strength. TCS moved firmly on its HR digitization roadmap, with most of its functions digitized and automated. The company has also launched numerous other initiatives as part of its employee management gameplan. Thus the appraisal and learning systems SPEED and iCALMS (integrated competency and learning management system) are completely automated and transparent.
