India is expected to witness a major networking drive in the country by 2016, as predicted by the Cisco Visual Networking Index (VNI) 2012. It also foresees that this will be primarily driven by the growing popularity of high speed internet services and smart devices like smartphones and tablets. As per VNI estimates, the number of networked devices will double from 1 bn in 2011 to 2 bn in 2016 and internet traffic is expected to escalate at a compounded annual growth rate of 46% of the global network connections, ie, 8.7 bn. From 2011 to 2016, other substantial landmark achievements will be the increased number of fixedline internet users from 85 mn to 202 mn whereas the average fixed broadband speed is anticipated to jump 4.2 times, ie, from 1-5 to 6 Mbps.
