Extensive testing/design features support LTO reliability/interoperability

In response to estimates that the worldwide tape automation market will nearly double in size by 2004, IBM Corporation, Hewlett-Packard, and Seagate Technology joined together to develop a new storage medium, Linear Tape Open, or LTO. In September, IBM became the first vendor to ship products based on the new technology. Inherent design features in the LTO recording format as well as unique hardware and microcode attributes of the IBM Ultrium LTO tape drive are aimed at exceeding the specified expectations for performance for a new secure, reliable, interoperable technology for storing data such as video images and other data requiring massive amounts of storage.
