High-capacity storage card implements HDD technology

Although memory storage cards have been around for over 35 years, until recently there was no real need for increased data storage capacity. The advent of the Internet, however, has triggered scores of new financial-transaction opportunities. For example, the U.S. Government recendy approved a $1.4 billion dollar memory-storage program designed to enable a single card to provide multi-agency, multi-function applications including health records, identification for high security and financial transactions, and various military functions. To serve all these functions, the card will require a minimum of several megabytes of secure data storage. Similar requirements are emerging for a wide range of industries and applications such as portable computers, PDAs, mobile phones, ATMs, banking, and entertainment.
