New self-test features aid SCSI-drive diagnostics

摘要

Analysis of industry-wide field returns of hard disk drives (HDD) has shown that approximately 30% of the drives deemed defective by end users are actually in perfect working order. Actual causes of system failure range from intermittent cable connection to virus-corrupted software or some other factor not related to the disk drive or other hardware. To address this problem, a method was developed to quickly identify the cause of hard drive problems at the end-user's site.
