Chips got way ahead of boards for a while, with e-beam lithography taking ICs down into nanometer scales while printed circuit board (PCB) resolutions languished in the visible range. New etching tecniques are changing this, however: Tiny boards and on-board microstructures are two important developments breaking down old barriers.
