WD exits enterprise business, names top exec

Replacing Chuck Haggerty as the top executive at Western Digital, Matt Massengill moved quickly to cut operating costs at the embattled hard-drive company. Among his first acts as CEO was the shuttering of WD's Rochester, MN site in mid-January. Rochester served as the development organization for the company's Enterprise Storage group, which was formed in 1996 to provide competitive products to the so-called "low end of the high end" disk-drive market.
