The disk-drive industry grows more competitive every year, with continuing pressure to add features, lower cost, and improve capacity and performance. These challenges focus on all areas of the disk drive, from mechanics and read/write elements to media and electronics. While media and read/write element changes are dramatically increasing drive capacity, improvements in performance, features, and cost are all being realized through advances in drive electronics.
