摘要

Disk-drive spindle-motor technology has been con-stant since the beginning of the industry in the 1960s. Although the sizes have been reduced, and the costs decreased, the basic steel ball-bearing technology has not changed, while the head, media, and elec-tronies technology has increased 10-100 fold. Today, the ball-bearing motor is a technology weak spot, deficient in stability and heat, and a contributor to the current need for the microactuators planned by most disk-drive designers.
