Without question, switching is the biggest thing to hit token ring networking since the 16-Mbit/s interface made its debut in 1988. With that in mind, we put token ring switches square on the DATA COMM Test Lab agenda, with testing slated for late summer and results appearing in November. Back when we put the test schedule together, we figured we had built in plenty of time to allow vendors to get real working products to us. After all, makers of token ring switches had been hawking their wares at trade shows for months. Even given the usual vapor trail, we were sure our schedule was good to go.
