Until recently, the customer network management furnished by the carriers has been more favor than fact-a gift from the telcos to their most valued (biggest-spending) customers. Unfortunately, net managers at corporations big and small need to keep tabs on their traffic as it passes through the public network. Happily, this tactic of playing favorites is fast becoming a thing of the past Now that carriers worldwide no longer have a lock on the market, they've got to find ways to stay ahead of the competition. Improving quality of service at the customer interface by offering customer network manage-ment (CNM) is one good way of doing this.
