Unlimited bandwidth may be every net manager's dream, but day-to-day reality is more about making every kilobyte count-and even the advent of ATM won't do much to relieve their daily drudgery. Onstream Networks Inc. (Santa Clara, Calif.) wants to give throughput-thrifty corporate networkers a hand: Its CS600 ATM Access Concentrator is the first piece of ATM gear that can recognize individual channels in a T1 link. That allows multiple devices to ride the same leased line simultaneously, ensuring that bandwidth is used efficiently. All the other ATM equipment out there treats a T1 circuit as a single pipe: Only one device can be assigned to it, and unused channels go to waste.
