Up to now, ATM services available from regional Bell operating companies have been anything but regional, with a handful of offerings limited to a few metropolitan areas. US West Co. (Denver) is taking the local flavor out of regional ATM by offering asynchronous transfer mode connections to customers anywhere in the carrier's 14-state operating region. The Interprise ATM Cell Relay Service, available through US West's Interprise Networking Services division, costs 40 percent to 50 percent less than leased lines offering comparable speeds, giving corporate customers a financial incentive to switch to ATM.
