A Business Dean's Perspective on the IS Field

I began my doctoral studies in IS over 40 years ago. It was obvious then that IS was going to have a major impact on organizations and the way they functioned, and by studying IS one would have the best possible view of business (and other organizations) and its functioning. IS would surely be the catbird's seat. Several years later, I began my career as an IS faculty member at a time of great optimism. In the next several years, our field experienced tremendous demand and growth - everyone wanted to have an IS group or department. Surely, we were going to be the kings of business education.
