Violence as weakness: In China and beyond

Weapons of mass and suicidal destruction are busy at work today. It is our ntimely obligation to ponder on "violence" and its significance in today's nworld after the war with Iraq and amid intercultural bloodbaths in Palestine nand Afghanistan. This essay describes how violence is weakness, 1 in five nsections: [A] violence and our fascination with it; [B] two features of vio- nlence-weakness; [C] the mystery of akratic weakness; [D] akrasia today; and n[E] a sad postscript, all in a Chinese context and beyond.
