Knowledge, virtue, and joyfulness: Confucian wisdom revisited

Underlying the Confucian views of the world and hfe, wisdom holds a significantrnposition within this particular system of ethics, philosophy, and religion,rnwhich we call "Confucianism" in the West. Questions have been raised withrnregard to the nature and function of the Confucian tradition, and different answersrnoften lead to different evaluations of Confucian wisdom; for some peoplernit is purely a collection of wise sayings, mainly concerned with practical andrnsecular matters; for others it is religious by nature, representing unique insightsrninto metaphysical principles by which all things and events come and go.
