A newly published report claims tha: demand for aseptically packed products is rising. An industry study entitled Global Aseptic Packaging by Zenith International and Warrick Research, estimates that there will be a 47 per cent increase in aseptic pack numbers, from 187 billion in 2008 to 265 billion by 2013, with the strongest growth forecast in Asia.rnThere is also likely to be an increase in volumes, with a 31 per cent rise from 86 billion litres in 2008 to 113 billion litres in 2013. Last year, cartons dominated the market and accounted for almost 75 per cent of the total volume.rnAccording to the report, some of this market share will be lost to PET bottles and pouches. PET bottles accounted for around 12 per cent of product volumes. The increased use of PET bottles and pouches will see the market share of cartons fallrnto around 70 per cent. The report says that the main trend in aseptically filled beverages since 2003 has seen the increased use of PET bottles. They have replaced not only hot filled glass, but also hot filled PET and beverage cartons.
