Government pledge to cut red tape gets community transport green light

The coalition government's pledge to cut the bureaucracy that stifles business and society is beginning to promise change for community transport. The prime minister has committed to leave office with less red tape on the statute books than when the coalition government was formed.The RedTape Challenge opens up the UK's 21,000 active regulations to public debate. In May, the report of an independent task force established to consider how to cut red tape for third sector organisations was published. The report, Unshackling Good Neighbours, highlighted some of the difficulties that volunteer drivers have persuading their insurance companies to include volunteer driving as part of the definition of 'social driving'. It announced that the task force secretariat would be meeting with the Association of British Insurers (ABI) and others with the aim of creating a revised definition of social driving to include volunteer driving.The ABI's website will publish a list of insurance companies that have signed up to the new definition.
