Construction schedule control involves the effective use of schedules to plan, execute, measure, and report on the progress of a construction project. Effective schedules provide excellent planning tools and are the best communication tools in the field. Bar (Gantt) chart and critical path method (CPM) schedules are the more commonly used methods of scheduling in construction. Bar charts are a graphical representation of the schedule without demonstrating the relationships between the tasks. Scheduling software will allow you to display a CPM schedule in the form of a bar chart, so the old definition really does not apply anymore.
