I was asking Planning and Scheduling Manager and my coworker Curtis Wilson the other day what he thought the major problems are relating to planning and scheduling today. He said that it's a problem convincing many contractors to invest the time and effort in a schedule to make it an effective working tool instead of just fulfilling a contract requirement. He said that it appears to him that many contractors don't know how to turn a schedule into that effective working tool, don't have the resources to do it in-house, and see the effort as too expensive. It was telling that he also said that he thinks many contractors are afraid that a project owner will use a schedule against the contractor.
