A recently published book by Dr. Alexia Nalewaik and Anthony Mills, ProjectPerformance Review: Capturing the Value of Audit, Oversight, and Compliancefor Project Success, focuses on evaluating projects efficiently and in context,identifying important improvement opportunities and including continuousmonitoring in the project controls process. Topics addressed in the bookinclude: introducing the project review method, engaging project stakeholders,ensuring project governance, conducting project risk assessments, improvingaccountability, providing project assurance, organizing and managing projects,optimizing review scope and approach, avoiding review pitfalls, meeting existingaudit standards, and proposing alternate approaches to project evaluation.This technical article provides an overview of the methodology, potential auditfindings from each module, and examples of the successful application of theNalewaik-Mills Project Performance Review method, in the context of projectmonitoring, project controls, and Total Cost Management.
