Dick Morley is known as the father of the PLC because of his work at Bedford and Assocs. in 1968. Almost half a century later, the PLC is the mainstay of industrial automation-in one form or another. Whether it's a brick, micro, or a high-horsepower PAC, the PLC "has been the workhorse in automation and manufacturing industries across the board for many years," to borrow from the words of the authors of this issue's cover story.
