Emulation, beyond simulation, for motion control

Testing a new controls system off-site using emulation can get a new line up and running at capacity in half the time, for half the cost, with half the effort, even at a highly complex consumer products installation. The plant needed another line that would lead to a new high-speed palletizer, including a 4-mile maze of conveyors that would need to be overhauled with 11 new tie-in points; multiple decision points; integration with 3-year-old systems and others that were nearly 30-years old; and four new programmable logic controllers, plus modifications to three existing PLCs.
