Medical center cuts energy costs by 32% with cogen units

At Jersey Shore University Medical Center, the first hospital here in New Jersey and the largest on the East Coast to receive U.S. Green Building Council LEED Gold certification, two cogeneration units in the central utility plant (CPU) create renewable energy for the entire medical campus, resulting in a 32% reduction in energy costs, which will save more than $1.5 million in the first year of operation.
