MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIF.-So Google bought smart thermostat maker Nest Labs for $3.2 billion. That's a lot of dough that's hard to justify with the hardware involved, so the $3.2 billion isn't about selling widgets. It's about access into consumers' homes. On the surface the transaction makes a lot of sense for both parties. Nest Labs co-founder Tony Fadell told Fortune magazine that he and his partners-many of then ex-Apple engineers-wani to create products and ser vices but they don't want tc create infrastructure. Google can create infrastructure in side which Nest products car operate. No doubt that ther mostats and the CO/smok« detector that Nest makes now are just the beginning.
