However, with 72 fatalities last year, there is still much work to be done in order to achieve a significant change. Not only does health and safety training protect the lives and wellbeing of workers, it also helps a business run more smoothly with less sick days taken and less errors made by workers. The 2007 changes to the Construction (Design and Management) (CDM) regulations have helped strengthen the industry's H&S robustness by placing responsibility on companies to ensure that contractors are competent.
