Contractors Working on the London Underground will face spot-checks to see whether they are qualified to carry out electrical work. The move follows a meeting last week between bosses of failed Tube PPP operator Metronet and officials from the electrical section of the Unite union. London regional officer Harry Cowap met with Metronet chiefs last week to highlight the union's claim that electrical work is being done by general civils firms. He said: "We've agreed more checks are needed and only registered firms should do electrical work."
